This Paladin is built for players who want to stand in the middle of a fight rather than dance around its edges. With the right D4 items, Shield of Retribution turns defence into the source of its damage. It can tear through Torment 12 Lair bosses, including Mephisto and The Butcher, without relying on weapon damage. It also feels good in repeated Pit runs: Depth 110 can fall quickly, while well-developed characters have enough power to test Depth 136 and beyond.
Blessed Shield is the centre of the setup, but Shield of Retribution changes how it behaves. The skill becomes a Juggernaut ability, so it receives the bonuses tied to Juggernaut Oath. Instead of acting like a simple thrown shield, it sends out several Thorns pulses before the final burst. That is the key detail. Your weapon's usual damage matters very little here; flat Thorns, Thorns multipliers, Fortify, and Resolve matter far more. Keep Clash with Punishment active every six seconds. Its flat and percentage Thorns boost is short, so letting it drop is a noticeable loss.
Rally is usually held down whenever you are moving or fighting. It keeps Faith flowing, which means Blessed Shield doesn't run dry at the worst moment. Fanaticism Aura adds useful attack speed and critical chance, while Defiance Aura carries much of the raw Thorns scaling. Fortress is best saved for elite groups, boss phases, or dangerous ground effects. Pop it, spend those Resolve stacks, and keep throwing shields while the immunity window is open.
Mantle of the Grey is the chest piece this setup wants most. It enlarges Juggernaut skills by 25 percent and converts Resolve into a serious damage increase. Ward of the White Dove is just as important in the off-hand slot. After you use another skill, your next three Blessed Shields hit twice as hard and need less Faith. Blood-Mad Idol adds Berserking and extra movement speed, plus a self-burn effect that unlocks a huge multiplier when damage is taken. Arcadia pants support Fortify uptime, and Lapa's Scripture supplies the large flat Thorns value needed for tougher content.
Embattled Aspect makes the Fortify drain work like rapid healing, which helps offset both enemy hits and Blood-Mad Idol's self-burn. Redirected Force adds more output through block, while Exploit Glyph provides Vulnerable; Iron Conviction can fill that role through Auras instead. Once the rotation settles into muscle memory, checking D4 items for sale for the missing pieces becomes easier, and the build feels less like a fragile caster and more like a walking wall of punishment.
