Fishing sounds like the sort of quiet little job that should exist in Diablo 4. You can almost picture it: standing by a frozen stream in Fractured Peaks, waiting for a bite while your party argues about builds. But that's not how the live game works right now. There isn't a proper fishing system with rods, bait, rare catches, cooking, or special alchemy uses. If you've seen guides talking about secret fishing holes, rare swamp fish, or hidden ice pools, be careful with them. They're not part of the official game. For now, the slower side of Sanctuary is more about gathering, events, Whispers, and improving your Diablo 4 gear while you roam between fights.
Scosglen is probably the closest thing to a relaxed farming zone. It has long roads, open woods, and enough space to ride without hitting a rock every five seconds. You'll find herbs along the paths, ore near cliffs, and plenty of small events that don't take much thought. It's a good region when you're half-watching a stream, chatting with friends, or just not in the mood for another Nightmare Dungeon. The enemies aren't harmless, of course, but the flow is comfortable. Ride a loop, grab nodes, clear a cellar if it's nearby, then move on.
Hawezar feels less calm. It's muddy, packed with mobs, and sometimes it seems like everything in the swamp wants a piece of you. Still, it's a strong farming pick once your build can clear packs fast. The area tends to throw plenty of enemies, herbs, events, and Whisper tasks close together, which means less dead time. I wouldn't take a weak fresh character there and expect a smooth ride. But if you've got decent defences and a build that doesn't run out of steam, Hawezar can be a very steady loop for materials and quick objectives.
Kehjistan is better than many players give it credit for. The desert has wide lanes, fewer tight turns, and a nice mix of ore and plant spawns. When Helltide lands there, it becomes even more useful, especially if you need Forgotten Souls or want to farm while doing something that still feels worthwhile. Fractured Peaks is the safer, more familiar option. It's not always the richest route, but it's simple. New seasonal characters can gather, hit a public event, complete a quick Whisper, and return to town without getting dragged into a long, messy detour.
The trick is not to farm like a robot. Don't ride past everything just because you only wanted ore, and don't stop for every tiny distraction either. Make a loose route. Pick up herbs and veins, clear events when they're close, kill elite packs, and check your Whisper progress as you go. Salvage often, keep your bags clean, and use a mount-friendly path rather than forcing your way through bad terrain. If Blizzard ever adds fishing, lots of players will probably love it. Until then, open-world farming fills that slower gap nicely, and players who want to save time may also choose to buy cheap Diablo 4 gear while still using these routes for gold, materials, and seasonal progress.
