Lamar Davis does not die in GTA 5's completed story. He gets himself into enough bad situations that it's easy to think he's doomed, though. If you're replaying missions, chasing chaos, or looking to buy GTA 5 Money for a fresh run around Los Santos, it helps to separate a failed mission from what actually counts in the plot. Lamar can be shot, blown up, or caught in crossfire during gameplay, but the game stops there and sends you back to a checkpoint. It never lets his death carry forward into the campaign.
The big scare comes in "Lamar Down." Stretch sets him up, and Lamar walks straight into the trap because he still believes old street ties mean something. Franklin, Michael, and Trevor head to the sawmill to pull him out. It's a rough mission, and Lamar can go down if you don't clear enemies quickly enough. But that isn't an alternate story path. It's just a failure screen. To finish the mission, Lamar has to make it out alive.
How to Keep Lamar Alive During His Major Missions
If you're having trouble with the rescue or the foundry shootout in Ending C, don't rush in like it's a normal free-roam firefight. Lamar tends to hang back, but enemies can still reach him from awkward angles. A steady approach works better than trying to wipe out everyone in seconds.
Lamar survives every successful ending route. Franklin never gets a choice to kill him, and neither the Trevor-ending nor Michael-ending treats Lamar as collateral damage. In Ending C, he joins the foundry assault and lives if the mission is completed properly. His survival matters because Franklin doesn't just leave his old life behind and pretend it never happened. Lamar is frustrating, reckless, and often wrong, but he's still Franklin's friend. Even outside the main campaign, players can spend time on side activities, casino runs, or collect GTA 5 Casino Chips without any official story event suggesting that Lamar has been killed or locked away.
